Windmill Lane U2 Graffiti Walls were special but now they are Dublin History.
Windmill Lane Studios, also known as the "U2 studio", was a three-storey music recording studio located in Dublin, Ireland. It was opened in 1978 by Brian Masterson who is a company director and head engineer and James Morris. Criticism was expressed amongst local activists at proposed plans to turn the old building into a six-storey office block. In 2009, Pulse College took ownership of the studios. Although the actual studios moved in 1989 to a new location on Ringsend Road, the original location is still a popular cult symbol and is regularly visited by tourists from Ireland and other countries.
Windmill Lane Studios is where U2 recorded their early albums as did a host of other musicians. Van Morrisson, The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, The Waterboys, Sinead O’Connor and The Script are among those who recorded at the studios.
This is a page dedicated to what is a part of Dublin History that has been removed with no thought to the worldwide U2 fans who came to visit this U2 Mecca in Dublin Docklands. The following is my contribution to the last days of the U2 Graffiti wall enjoy this historic account. Why not add a photo if you have been photographed at the wall we intend to pass on all photos to be archived for the future generations to view.

I decided to spend an hour today photographing the remains of the Graffiti Walls on Windmill Lane. While I was on the Lane I spoke to some visitors from Manchester UK who had visited the Lane in February and had returned again today. They were horrified to find that the demolition had taken place and they too photographed the remains of the Graffiti walls before heading off to Temple Bar. Another girl who lives in an apartment nearby decided that it would be a good time to take some photographic memories of her own. She described to me the manner of the demolition that had taken place earlier this month.
What we take for granted in our dear city can change so fast when the demolition hammer strikes, and with regret we can question the reasons why. Progress and modernisation are some reasons, but I ask could this have been an important tourist location that could have been developed for the future?
I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

As the walls come tumbling down on Windmill Lane!
"In the name of Progress" Not Love! - The U2 Graffiti walls are gone forever!
Tuesday 21st July 2015
Over the past few day the demolition crews have entered the site of the ex - U2 Recording Studio on Windmill Lane, they have been knocking down the U2 Graffiti Walls. It is sad to see the walls disappear they are now gone for ever, this area has been a Mecca for U2 fans when visiting Dublin from all over the world as the testimonials written on the walls prove. I was on the Lane at 8.30 tonight and an errie silence was evident as the demolition equipment rested for the night. I still managed to meet some tourists who made the pilgrimage to Windmill Lane to soak up the atmosphere, to their surprise and shock the walls had tumbled down.

Waiting For U2
“Waiting For U2”, is a Radio Documentary made in 1989 by Julian Vignoles for the Irish RTÉ Radio 1. This Documentary explores the story of three young girls whose lives are totally bound up with their fascination of the group U2 since the Croke Park Concert in 1985. Ann Marie, Yvonne and Debbie sat daily outside Windmill Lane Recording Studios, in wait for the members of the band U2.
Recently Yvonne who is known today as Evey contacted Old Dublin Town and send on some photos for inclusion in the Windmill Lane page. It was a pleasure to hear from Evey, thank you Evey for sharing the memories of your special U2 story.
